Egg-cellent Breeds

The Purpose of the Egg-cellent Breeds Rare Chicken Project is three-fold:

  1. To assist in the redevelopment of rare chicken breeds
  2. To design and build Mobile Hobbit House Chicken Coops thus creating a community
  3. To use this project as a way to engage youth in something meaningful

Each Spring and Fall, we hatch eggs and raise the chicks. The first breed that we worked with last fall was the Java Chicken Breed, one of the oldest breeds in the Americas. This spring, we are raising a number of ornamental Bantam Chicken breeds, including some of the following:

  • Buff Laced Frizzle Polish
  • Amber Drop Fowl
  • Duckwing Araucana
  • Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
  • Buff Silkie
  • Blue Mottled Cochin
  • Gold Laced Polish
  • Golden Cuckoo Maran
